My current paintings explore both the figure and surface as equally important subject matter.. The figure dissolves into richly textured layers of atmospheric color. Thick impasto and gestural brushstrokes are created and destroyed by scratching and scraping to emphasize ambiguity. The figure is lost and found in a symphony of layers: layers that create history and erase history. The transience of time and the fragility of being human are underlying themes in my work.
Ethereal figures become embodied within acrylic paint and plaster. The surface has a fresco-like patina that has been scuffed and marred by human intervention and the passage of time.
